After almost five years of rock-madness, we've decided to pack it in. We're going to go out with a bang, though. We're doing a double-set finale at Cameron House on May 9 with our friends Pick a Piper and Henrietta Lacks. We hope you will join us and rock out one last time.

We've uploaded two songs from the new record Nightmares to our MySpace page. CD Release is a week away. Enjoy!

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

The official drop date for Nightmares is set! The only way to get a copy is to come to our show at Horseshoe Tavern on April 7. See you then!

Saturday, January 31, 2009

We are rocking Wavelength tomorrow. Rockicity levels expected to be off the charts. Also... an announcement regarding our much-anticipated CD-release is imminent. Stay tuned!

Happy New Year!

(Good luck on those resolutions)

Friday, December 5, 2008

To show off how much we really appreciate you guys, we're giving away free digital copies of our album Daydreams all day on Monday, December 8. If you recall, only a limited supply of Daydreams was available and it sold out completely very quickly. We have no plans to re-print the record, but we wanted to make it available for you.

Just click here and you'll be able to download all five tracks and the artwork.

Don't be shy about passing the link on to your family and friends. We want everyone to get a chance to get in on the giveaway. Be warned, the offer is only good for December 8 and the link will only work on Monday.

See you this Sunday at the Rock-a-Thon!

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Our upcoming EP, which has been underway for almost six months now, is nearing completion. We'll be playing a bunch of songs from it at the Rock-a-Thon on December 7th. We hope you can make it out!

Douglas is turning 30 on October 4th. We've decided to throw him a big birthday party. Expect to hear many Fire Hydrant songs old and new as well as sets from our nearest and dearest. Check the shows section for the details.

Sunday, July 27, 2008

So we're playing shows again, and we're working on a new record. We're also planning on getting more merch... Soon all of these things will happen and we'll have a big party. 'Till then, don't be shy about dropping us e-mails about _stuff_. You know, whatever is on your mind.

Thursday, February 7, 2008

To celebrate the release of Daydreams, we've released our first music video: Time + Space. Enjoy!

The Rock-a-Thon has come and gone and Jon is inconsolable. Apparently the wait until the next one (367 days and counting) is too long for him. He's writing his usual brand of bleak, moody, depressing music that will no doubt make it into the Fire Hydrant catalog and sink all your precious little hearts. But hey, that's what we do. We make you sad so that you can appreciate being happy. Our upcoming EP has songs with titles like "All For Nothing" and "You're Dead (and I'm Alive)". If those songs don't make you appreciate being happy, nothing will.

Sunday, November 25, 2007

Rock-a-Thon. Next Sunday. Be there.

Friday, October 12, 2007

We're out of the studio. We're rehearsing again. Doug's back with us full time. (and big thanks to Rob for helping us out this year) We're writing new stuff again and we're ready to charge full steam into the fall and make a lot of noise. Expect the EP to drop later this year or early next year. It will be the first of many.

Also, we've got a show coming up on October 30 at The Boat. Check out the shows section for more info.

Sunday, August 5, 2007

Fire Hydrant retreats into the studio! We're working on an EP to satiate the salivating scores of supporters who don't know the names of any of our new songs and keep asking us to play tunes that are three years old. This one will be done fairly quickly and we'll be back in action before you know it!

Sunday, May 27, 2007

Sometimes we neglect the front page of this here site... but that doesn't mean we're not updating the shows section on a regular basis!

Tuesday, February 6, 2007

We're back!!

We've got a flurry of shows coming up, hopefully in a town near you. The shows section has been updated with some new dates. Stay tuned for future announcements!

Monday, December 18, 2006

The year is almost over. The Rock-a-Thon came and went. Fire Hydrant hasn't played in almost two months. Things are kind of... quiet. You may have heard rumblings about a Jon side-project or a Nidhan solo-project. Doug's hard at work on his own stuff too and Dan's always got Neutron Zenith going on the backburner. But fear not, ferocious rock will return in the new year and things won't be as different as you think. Or will they?

Friday, October 13, 2006

The year is beginning to wind down for Fire Hydrant and pretty soon we're going to be back in the studio working on our follow up to Better Late Than Never. We'll be playing some of our brand new material (and trust me, we have a ton of new material) at our show next Friday (October 20) at Cameron House if you want to hear 'em. For a point of reference, they're in the same vein as Fractured Mind. Gloomy. Intense. Otherworldly.

In other news, the t-shirts are completely sold out. Thanks to the folks who scooped them up so quickly!

If you're on MySpace, you probably know that a number of bands like to take advantage of it to promote their craft. If you are short on things to do, you can always visit our personal pages (Doug - Dan - Nidhan - Jon) and see what we've got going on.

Thursday, September 21, 2006

We've updated the press section. Now you can read a series of articles about Fire Hydrant. There's also a video of our performance of Fireball at our Lee's Palace show from August available on our MySpace page (scroll down to the comments section) for you to check out. Thanks to Nikkole Stone for shooting and uploading it.

Sunday, August 27, 2006

Just a quick note that we are running very low on stock of t-shirts and that if you want one, you will have to act quickly to get one. We only have one left of XXL, L, S and we are sold out of M. We will have the shirts available at our next show on Sept 9.

Saturday, August 19, 2006

Our upcoming show in Hamilton next Saturday is cancelled. The circumstances are completely out of our hands and we are sorry.

Tuesday, August 8, 2006

More pictures in the photos section from the nXng Music Festival. Thanks to everyone who made it out. Our August shows have been posted in the shows section. Also, if you're coming to our show next Monday at Lee's Palace, be sure to drop us an e-mail for guestlist considerations.

Monday, July 10, 2006

We finally have some new pictures in the photos section. Enjoy!

Saturday, July 8, 2006

With little warning, our show at The Bagel has been cancelled. That doesn't mean we're not playing tonight. We'll be playing at a party at the Utopia Complex. Please e-mail us for directions. Sorry for the mixup.

Tuesday, July 4, 2006

A lot of people ask me "how are things going with the band?" and my answer is always the same: "we're playing lots of shows and writing lots of songs" which is a good thing. Sure enough, we have a show this Saturday at The Bagel and we're working on some new tunes this week. When will we stop gigging/writing? I hope never.

Saturday, June 24, 2006

A big thank you to everyone who came out to last night's show and made it an absolute success. We are absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response we received and we promise to do more sets like that one. In the meantime, check out the shows section to see where we'll be appearing next.

Monday, June 12, 2006

June has been good to Fire Hydrant. The show last week was a startling success (thanks to everyone who could make it out!) and we're steadily getting ready to top it at our next one (June 23). Our catalogue of new material is continuing to grow and it will only be a matter of time before we're debuting a new song at each show. It also recently came to our attention that we were #188 on the campus radio charts for all of Canada in April, which is completely mind-boggling for us. To celebrate, Robots for Dinner is now available for download in the music section. Enjoy!

Monday, May 8, 2006

Time for another update! There isn't a lot going on this month. After our two night stand at the end of April we've decided to go back into songwriting mode. Jon has been spending lots of time with his new guitar trying to hammer out a few songs that actually have some meaning behind them. (if you 'get' songs like Shortage or Ode to Zircon, you'll understand) On the bright side, this means we'll have plenty of new tunes to play at our shows in June. (check out the shows page for the scoop) Hope to see you then!

Wednesday, April 12, 2006

Better Late Than Never continues to receive steady airplay on the west coast while being mostly ignored in Ontario. But that's okay, we still love you Ontario. New show posted in the shows section.

Monday, March 20, 2006

The response to our record release over the last month and a half has been nothing short of tremendous. We appreciate all the support we've received and look forward to things to come. Also of interest: we're charting at CKXU in Lethbridge (#23) so if you're in Alberta - thanks for listening!

Doug and Jon each will be doing solo sets at The Bagel on April 6. Doug's set will be acoustic. Jon's... not so acoustic. There will be some cheap beer and some cheap laughs, so be sure to join us.

Tuesday, January 31, 2006

Today is the day we've all been waiting for! You can now purchase Better Late Than Never either from our online shop or from one of the retailers listed on this page. Don't forget to visit our forum and leave us a message! For those of you still on the bubble, a new mp3 is available on the music page for you to check out.

Saturday, January 28, 2006

Oh sweet commerce! Pre-orders for Better Late Than Never are now being taken at our fancy new online shop.

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

The official release date for Better Late Than Never is January 31, 2006. Just one week away! In the meantime, why not head over to our new forum?

Saturday, January 21, 2006

I looked into my crystal ball and peeked into the future. It would seem that there is some very exciting news over the horizon. This is what I found out: the next Fire Hydrant show will be a CD Release Party and it will be happening on February 11 at Holy Joe's!!! All other information is hazy at this point, but I'm sure it will be revealed in due time.

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

Happy Tuesday! Click here and have a look/listen to Better Late Than Never. We'll have it in stores in January.

Stay tuned!

Friday, December 2, 2005

I can't believe how long this record is taking. But it is said that all good things take time. I will assure you that this record is a good thing. The title we will be going with is "Better Late Than Never", which is pretty much how I'm feeling these days. Here is the tracklisting

  1. Believe
  2. Robots for Dinner
  3. Losin' It
  4. Cassie
  5. Shortage
  6. Fractured Mind
  7. Blue
  8. Fire in the Basement
  9. Old Habits
  10. Riding Bears

Tracks 1, 2, 3 and 7 are re-recorded versions of songs from the out-of-print, out-of-stock, Fire Hydrant EP. (if you managed to get a copy, you may have a collector's item on your hands!) The others are staples from the shows we've been playing all year.

Thursday, November 17, 2005

A big thanks to everyone who came out to see us at Lot 16 on Saturday. We had a great time and we hope you all did too. It also pretty much wrapped up the first year of Fire Hydrant as we're taking December off. We'll be back next year with a new record and some new tunes for you.

Monday, October 24, 2005

Things are quite busy here at camp Fire Hydrant. We're finishing off the album; only a couple of more mixing sessions and then it's off for mastering. We also have two upcoming shows which I know you will want to attend:

Friday, October 28 @ The Bagel
285 College Street
More info to follow

Saturday, November 12 @ Pop Noir
1136 Queen Street West
More info to follow

Sunday, October 2, 2005

Wow. It's been almost two months since the last update. I hate it when bands take forever to update their websites. So why do we take so long? The reason is that we don't want to clutter the page with fluff. We want to deliver news on the news page. However, maybe it's for the best that I deliver a bit more than mere propaganda on this here website. For the entire experience, try signing up for the mailing list and you can receive monthly updates and stories in your inbox.

As of yesterday: we have finished recording our debut full-length CD. Now we just wait for it to be mixed and then we'll have new music on the website for you. Barring any setbacks, the CD will be done in December and we'll set up a nice little shop for you to buy it online, or you can get it from us at one of our performances. Speaking of which, we've got one coming up soon!

I promise to post more information as soon as it comes. In the meantime, why not check out one of these pages?

Sunday, August 7, 2005

In case you didn't know, we're playing another show on September 9th. In the meantime, we're still in the process of writing/recording and making the Fire Hydrant experience as good as ever.

Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Welcome to the new site. Dan slaved away for hours on this thing, and it looks great! We've got a new show announcement in the Shows section. Something about a final gig at our favorite venue. We've also begun work on our new record. It will feature old favorites and new tunes alike.
